The Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, announced the plan to combine three iconic parks in South Jakarta which included Taman Langsat, Taman Ayodya, and Taman Leuser. These three parks will be put together into a larger unit called Taman ASEAN. However, this plan has the potential to have a significant impact on the existence of the Barito Animal Market traders, which will be relocated as a result of the construction of this new park.
Pramono said that the merging of the three parks is very important as part of a better step in public space. “Friends, to combine the three parks must be done, because it belongs to the DKI Government and must be cleaned,” Pramono explained while conducting socialization at Kramat Pela, Kebayoran Baru.
Relocation of barito animal market traders
Related to the impact of the merging of the park, traders from the Barito Animal Market must be relocated. Pramono claimed to have communicated with the Mayor of South Jakarta, M. Anwar, regarding this negotiation and relocation process. He stressed that the government did not want to make traders lose their livelihoods. “We will negotiate and sit together to offer alternative locations so that they can still run a business,” he added.
South Jakarta City Government is known to have prepared a relocation site for traders. One of the potential locations is the Lenteng Agung area that has been reviewed by Mayor Anwar. There, it is hoped that traders can continue their activities without having to lose access to customers.
ASEAN Park facilities
The new ASEAN Park is planned to have complete facilities such as toilets, jogging tracks, and large green open spaces. This plan is not only to provide comfort for the community, but also to improve the quality of public space in Jakarta. This park is expected to operate 24 hours, giving people the opportunity to exercise and relax at any time.
Pramono added that the improvement of this park would be carried out without using the Jakarta Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD), so it was expected to reduce pressure on the regional budget. This step is also an example for the government’s efforts to manage public space more effectively and efficiently.
Public opinion and traders
The reaction of the community and traders to this plan varies. Some traders expressed concern about the new location that was unclear. They need certainty so as not to lose regular customers. Meanwhile, the general public welcomed the park development plan, with the hope that ASEAN Park could be a more interesting and beneficial location for all levels of society.
Although there are challenges in carrying out this plan, the government’s desire to bring better public space in South Jakarta remains the main focus. Efforts to accommodate the interests of all parties are expected to be done well.
With this, the merger of the Langsat Park, Ayodya Park, and Taman Leuser become ASEAN Park is not only a matter of infrastructure, but also social and economic integration. The government still has time to dialogue with traders and find the best solutions, so that all parties can benefit each other.
Every step towards the construction of a better park must involve the community. Public involvement in the planning process will be very helpful to create space that suits their needs, and can improve the quality of life in Jakarta as a whole.
