Indonesian men’s volleyball national team U-16 has taken a significant step ahead of the departure to the Asia U-16 2025 volleyball championship by crossing out four players from the national training list. This decision was taken to meet the regulations that set a maximum of 12 players. The U-16 national team coach, Indra Wahyudi, revealed, “The maximum amount that may be registered is only 12 players, while currently we still have 16 players.”
Before this decision, the initial squad of the U-16 national team totaled 21 players. After a series of selections, the number of players was reduced to 16. Now, to prepare a closer match, an evaluation was again carried out which resulted in the last trimming to 12 players. Indra added, the evaluation process was carried out based on the performance shown during training and tryout.
However, the names of players to be crossed have not been announced to the public. Indra said, the decision was taken after a careful assessment of the ability of each player. “The names of the players crossed out will be determined Friday night, based on the results of the training evaluation and tryout,” he explained.
The Asia 2025 volleyball championship is scheduled to take place in Thailand on 12 to 19 July 2025. Before the event, the U-16 national team will depart on July 10 to make the last preparation at the race site. In this competition, Indonesia will be incorporated in Group B with Iran, Kazakstan, and Hong Kong China, which will provide its own challenges for the team.
Competition in this group is predicted to be very strict, especially given the quality of the opponents faced. The U-16 national team previously made it to this phase after passing the qualification by beating Malaysia in the match that took place at General Kunarto Volleyball Padepokan, Sentul, Bogor. This victory indicates the potential of Indonesian young squads that are ready to compete on the international stage.
Stepping to the Asian level, the U-16 volleyball national team will face opponents who incidentally are more experienced. For this reason, the squad cut into 12 players is expected to increase the focus and strength of the team. The strict selection process and decisions based on performance evaluation are expected to produce an optimal combination of players.
In the context of preparation, it is important for the team to maintain fighting spirit and technical skills. Coach Indra expressed his belief that with careful preparation and squad consolidation, the U-16 national team will be able to provide the best performance in the upcoming championship.
The decision to cross out players always gives rise to discussions, both among fans and sports criticisms. However, this is part of the team’s strategy to achieve maximum results in very competitive competition. Indonesian people certainly hope that this young team can bring the fragrant names of the nation in the Asian volleyball arena.
Full support is also expected to come from fans, which is expected to provide additional motivation to the players. With a supporting atmosphere, it is expected that the U-16 national team not only has technical abilities, but also a strong mentality when facing various challenges on the ground.
The success of the U-16 national team in achieving positive results in the Asian U-16 Volleyball Championship 2025 will be a good first step for volleyball development in Indonesia. This team is expected not only to participate, but also compete seriously to achieve proud achievements.
