The Yemen Houthi group carried out an aggressive attack on Israel on Monday, July 7, 2025, targeting Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv and several port cities in the country. This attack was reported to have a response to the black flag operation launched by Israel on Sunday night, which targeted more than ten locations in Yemen, including important facilities such as power plants.
According to reports from Al Masirah television station, Houthi used three hypersonic missiles in the attack. The targeted targets include power plants in Ashkelon City and Ashdod Port. In addition, they also launched eight drone aircraft directed to the Port of Eilat. All of these targets were reportedly successfully hit in this attack.
This last attack was a direct reply from Houthi over the previous Israeli attack targeting infrastructure in Yemen, including the Port of Al Hodeida. In a broader context, Israeli Defense Minister, Israel Katz, revealed that the black flag operation was carried out as a step to respond to the Houthi missile attack that had threatened the integrity of the Israeli territory.
The Israeli military, in its explanation, stated that they launched a massive attack on Houthi military targets which were considered a threat. Katz confirmed that among the targets of the attack was a Liberian -flagged cargo ship that was previously confiscated by Houthi and a strategic area in Yemen, including ports and power plants considered as the center of Houthi power.
“As part of the black flag operation, the Israeli defense forces (IDF) launched a devastating attack on the target of Houthi terrorists at the port of Al Hodeida, Salif, and Ras Isa,” Katz said. He asserted that Yemen would experience great consequences if this situation continued, by referring to increasing tension due to prolonged conflict between the two parties.
Houthi military spokesman, Yahya Saree, responded by saying that his party managed to fend off most of the attacks launched by Israel. “The Yemeni Air Force is currently fending off Zionist aggression against our country,” Saree said, asserting that Houthi would continue to maintain their sovereignty.
This condition adds to the complexity of a long -standing conflict situation in the Middle East and shows how the tension between Iran and Israel can have a much greater impact. Houthi, known to have a close relationship with Iran, increasingly confirms its position in the region, while Israel tries to give a strong military response to what is considered a terrorist threat.
Meanwhile, the possibility of the impact on civilians in these two regions cannot be ignored. These attacks not only create military tension, but can also lead to a wider humanitarian crisis. For the record, Yemen himself was experiencing a deep humanitarian crisis due to a prolonged civil war and foreign intervention.
In the next few weeks, this situation will continue to be monitored by various parties, including international organizations that care about human rights and regional stability. Houthi and Israel’s actions in the context of this conflict not only affect the countries involved but can also affect geopolitical maps in the Middle East as a whole.
